The Strange Peace of Doing Nothing

We’re all addicted to motion.
Scrolling, planning, replying, thinking, fixing, improving…always something.
Doing nothing feels illegal.
If I sit quietly for five minutes, my brain starts panicking
Shouldn’t you be working?
Shouldn’t you be learning something?
Shouldn’t you at least be scrolling?
Silence now feels heavier than noise. But the funny thing is, some of the best moments aren’t when something happens.
One evening, I was sitting outside a Jain temple near my place. No phone, no music, no goal. Just watching people walk in and out, listening to the light bell sounds, feeling the evening air slow down.
Nothing dramatic happened. No “life-changing” thoughts. Just a quiet moment where my mind finally stopped racing.
And it felt… peaceful. Like my brain took a deep breath without asking.
That’s the strange thing about doing nothing, It resets you in ways productivity never does.
Doing nothing is underrated. It reminds you that the world keeps moving even when you pause.
And sometimes, the most peaceful thing you can do is absolutely nothing at all.
Maybe “doing nothing” is just the mind remembering how to be alive without effort.
